THE - ARTÍCULO DEFINIDO - DEFINITE ARTICLE 

Para muchos estudiantes de inglés, los artículos se presentan como una de las cosas más difíciles para recordar. Y lo que puede ser más confuso, no siempre es necesario utilizar un artículo en inglés.

Es una de las palabras más comunes en inglés es el artículo definido. Normalmente, los sustantivos están precedidos por dicho artículo; cuando el hablante cree que el oyente ya sabe a lo que se refería. The se utiliza para referirse a personas u objetos que son únicos

The se utiliza con superlativos y números ordinales

  • You are the tallest person in our class / Tú eres la persona más alta de nuestra clase.
  • This is the third time I have called you today / Esta es la tercera vez que te llamo hoy.

The se utiliza con adjetivos, dirigido a todo un grupo de personas
  • The French enjoy cheese / Los franceses disfrutan con el queso.
  • The elderly require special attention / Las personas mayores requieren una atención especial.
  • She has given a lot of money to the poor / Ella ha dado una gran cantidad de dinero a los pobres.

The se utiliza con décadas
  • He was born in the seventies / Él nació en los años setenta.

The se utiliza con frases introducidas con “by only”
  • This is the only time we've had sunshine all week / Este es el única vez que hemos tenido sol durante toda la semana.

"THE" CON NOMBRES PROPIOS

The se utiliza con nombres de áreas geográficas, ríos, cordilleras, grupos de islas, canales y océanos
  • They are travelling in the Arctic / Están viajando por el Ártico.
  • Our ship crossed the Atlantic in 7 days / Nuestro barco cruzó el atlántico en 7 días.
  • I will go on a cruise down the Nile / Voy a ir en un crucero por el Nilo.
  • Hiking across the Rocky Mountains would be difficult. Sería difícil una excursión a través de las Montañas Rocosas.

The se utiliza con países y nombres plurales
  • I have never been to the Netherlands / Nunca he estado en los Países Bajos.

The se utiliza con palabras como república, reino o estados

The se utiliza con nombres de los periódicos

The se utiliza con nombre de edificios famosos, trabajos de arte, museos o monumentos
  • Have you been to the Vietnam Memorial? / ¿Ha estado en el Memorial (también monumento) de Vietnam?
  • We went to the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa / Fuimos al Louvre y vimos a Mona Lisa.

The se utiliza con nombres de hoteles y restaurantes, excepto si éstos llevan el nombre de una persona.

  • We ate at the Golden Lion / Comimos en el Golden Lion (León de Oro).

The se utiliza con los nombre de familia, pero no con los nombres de individuos.

Over - uso en inglés

"Over" funciona como preposición, adverbio, adjetivo o prefijo.

Como preposición para indicar movimiento de un lugar a otro:
➤ He went over to my ex-wife for the weekend.
➤ The thief run over the crowd, he must have killed someone.
➤ She call me over for a private chat.
➤ Let's call over the waitress so we can order.

Para indicar un período de tiempo:
➤ I worked there over a year.
➤She did not sleep there over the past month.

Como adverbio
➤ A flock of birds flew over the church pinnacle.
➤ As an airline pilot, I used fly over Paris.

Como adjetivo
➤ Our birthday anniversary was over when my parents arrived.
➤The maths class was over, because I was late again.

Como prefijo
➤ She has overestimated his intelligence.

Se utiliza con números
➤ There were over 1000 people at the demonstration.

 Se utiliza para indicar movimiento hacia abajo:
➤ The ladder fell over him.

➤ She jumped over the fence.

Para indicar más de un número o cantidad esperada:
