El presente simple - present simple, definido como tiempo verbal, es el presente que se utiliza para hablar acerca de hechos, hábitos, costumbres, sucesos, programas u horarios del quehacer general en la vida diaria.

El tiempo presente describe situaciones, hechos o sucesos actuales:
Ejemplos:
✦ Algo que se repite de forma contínua:
- I take my day off every weekend.
- My parents always go out to dinner on Saturday.
✦ Lo que es siempre cierto o afirmativo:
- The USA is made up of 50 states.
- Humans beings inhabit the earth
- China is an eastern country
- I always have a glass of wine with the meal.
- She is a tall girl.
- The sun rises in east.
✦ Cualquier cosa presente que esté ligada al futuro:
- The new restaurant opens next month.
- My father has a flight to Dubai tomorrow at 17:00 hours.
- Jane's birthday is at the January.
✦ Preguntas -usos de los verbos to do. Utilizamos do, does para el "present tense" (ver conjugación):
- Do you like tennis?
- Does he speak English
- Do you think I am deaf?
- Where do they come from?
- Do you like spaghetti?
✦ También utilizamos do con palabras como who, where, why, what:
- Who do you prefer to travel with?
- Where do you live in Paris?
- Why do you complain all the time?
- What do you like best meat or fish?
- Do they prefer football or baseball?
- Where do you every Saturday?
✦ Uso de formas negativas con el verbo to do (don't contracción de do not - doesn't 3ª persona, contracción de does not):
- I don't believe in Tarot
- Don't you think this is a better proposition?
- I don't dislike dogs.
- Don't they really want to go out tonight?
- Peter doesn't want to get up early on his day off.
- She does not understand you point of view.
- I do not accept your rude approach.
